Professional Page Numbering

Legal documents, reports, theses, and manuals all require properly formatted page numbers. Use the prefix field to add 'Page' before the number, or enable 'show total' to get classic '1 / 12' format used in professional documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I choose where the page number appears on the page?
Yes. You can place page numbers in 6 positions: bottom-center (default), bottom-right, bottom-left, top-center, top-right, and top-left. Each position is calculated relative to the page dimensions so page numbers appear correctly regardless of the page size.
Can I start numbering from a page other than 1?
Yes. Set the start number to any value — for example, starting at 5 if you are adding page numbers to a chapter that begins on page 5 of a larger document. You can also add a prefix (e.g. 'Page ') and suffix (e.g. ' of 20') to format the number text however you need.
Can I add page numbers to just some pages?
The current tool adds page numbers to all pages with the same configuration. To number only specific pages, first use the PDF Extract Pages tool to pull out the pages you want numbered, add page numbers to that subset, then use the PDF Merge tool to combine everything back together.
