Frequently Asked Questions
What unit are the crop values in?
Crop values are entered in PDF points (pt). 1 PDF point = 1/72 inch ≈ 0.35 mm. A half-inch margin on all sides equals 36 points. A standard A4 page is 595 × 842 points.
Will cropping reduce the file size?
Cropping in PDF sets the CropBox (the visible area) without removing the underlying content from the MediaBox. This means the cropped-out content is hidden but still present in the file. The file size may change slightly but content outside the crop box is still technically in the file. For a smaller file, crop the PDF and then compress it.
Can I crop different amounts on different pages?
The standard crop tool applies the same crop margins to all pages. For per-page cropping with different margins, you would need to split the PDF into individual pages, crop each separately, and merge them back. The PDF Split, PDF Crop, and PDF Merge tools used in sequence achieve this workflow.
