Frequently Asked Questions
How does the background colour detection work?
When you load your PDF the tool renders every page at high resolution and samples the pixels immediately surrounding each detected text item. It averages those pixels to calculate the true background colour — whether it is white, grey, blue, or any other colour. The erase rectangle is painted in exactly that sampled colour, so the erasure blends seamlessly.
What is Brush Erase mode?
Brush Erase lets you click and drag to draw a rectangle over any area you want to hide — including content pdfjs did not detect as selectable text, such as watermarks, table cells, image captions, or headers. The tool samples the background colour at the location you drew, automatically.
Does it work on coloured or gradient PDF backgrounds?
Yes. The background is sampled from the rendered canvas, not assumed to be white. It works on any solid background colour. For gradients it samples the average colour around the text block, which produces a very close match in most cases.
Is the erasure truly permanent?
The erase operation draws filled colour rectangles over the text in the PDF page content. The text will be completely invisible in any PDF viewer. However, the underlying text data stream may still exist inside the PDF source. For legally certified erasure of sensitive data (GDPR, HIPAA), use Adobe Acrobat certified redaction.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Scanned PDFs are images — there is no selectable text to detect. Use Brush Erase mode to draw rectangles over the areas you want to hide. The tool samples the background colour at that location automatically.
