Why can't I send a PowerPoint file on WhatsApp?

What is the ppt/media/ folder in a PPTX file?

A PPTX file is a ZIP archive. Inside ppt/media/ are all embedded images, videos, and audio referenced by slide XMLs. When PowerPoint inserts a high-resolution photo it embeds the full original binary into this folder. Scan ppt/media/

The PPTX ZIP is opened and every file in ppt/media/ is enumerated. Files matching JPEG, PNG, WebP, and BMP extensions are identified. GIF and vector formats (SVG, WMF, EMF) are skipped entirely.

Filter by threshold

Only images exceeding 500 KB (512,000 bytes) are queued for compression. Small images, icons, and diagrams are left completely untouched.

Resize with OffscreenCanvas

Each oversized image is decoded with createImageBitmap and drawn to an OffscreenCanvas at the target resolution. If the image is already under 1280px wide, only quality re-encoding is applied.

Re-encode

PNG images are re-encoded as PNG to preserve alpha transparency. JPEG, WebP, and BMP are re-encoded as JPEG at 82% quality. Only the compressed version is stored if it is smaller than the original.

Repack

The modified entries are written back into the ZIP and the file is rebuilt with DEFLATE compression. The result is downloaded as filename_mobile.pptx.

Will the compressed file still open in Google Slides and Keynote?
